Saatchi Gallery shows Kildare artist's work after seeing it on Pinterest

The designer put her success down to a programme she completed in May, called ‘Clicktailing’.

CIARA O’KEEFE, A Kildare based ceramic artist has had her work featured in London’s Saatchi Gallery after posting a number of photos of her designs on a social networking site.

O’Keefe ‘pinned’ the pictures on Pinterest, a pinboard-style photo-sharing website, and the directors of the Saatchi Gallery saw them and contacted her to offer her an exhibition space in the gallery.

Her ceramic 3D piece, ‘From the corner of my room’, is currently hanging on the second floor of the Saatchi Gallery in London.

Setting up her studio in Kildare 14 years ago, O’Keefe creates bespoke ceramic artworks, using “clay to capture mood and sensitivity”. She said she is “inspired by fashion”, and the “ceramic artworks are embellished with strong textures and eclectic patterns”.

The designer put her success down to a programme she completed in May, called ‘Clicktailing’ that shows traditional Irish businesses how to become online retailers run by Inventorium and the Irish Internet Association (IIA).

“Ciara’s success not only highlights the power of social media, but also how, in a short period of time, retailers can get online and achieve a huge degree of success,” said Fiona Hyland of Inventorium.
