A GROUP OF young people have been caught on video jumping from the roof of a restaurant into the Liffey in Dublin.

This happened on the North Wall Quay today. As the photos shows, the teenagers involved had to jump clear of the footpath below to reach the water.

This, of course, is not the first time that the good weather has prompted such behaviour - and the Irish Coast Guard has issued a seasonal warning on water safety in response:

While it is great to see people out enjoying the current good spell of weather after the long winter, we advise that the sea and inland waterways are still relatively cold and caution should be exercised when entering the water due to cold water shock.
Parents should always  supervise young children near water and if you are venturing out on the water on leisure craft, remember to wear a life jacket and let someone know where you are going and when you are due back. If you see someone in difficulty, dial 999/112 and ask for Coast Guard.

In relation to jumping the river, it has previously stated, “the Coast Guard strongly urges people not to engage in this particular type of activity.

“Swimmers are literally jumping into the unknown, and there may be submerged objects which are not visible and which may cause serious injury.”
