Gardaí seek witnesses after cyclist dies in rush hour hit-and-run

GARDAÍ ARE APPEALING for witnesses after a cyclist died in a rush hour hit-and-run yesterday evening.

The man (62) was struck by a car at around 6.30pm on the Clontarf Road at the junction with Howth Road in Fairview, Dublin.

Eyewitnesses described the car as a silver Volkswagen Golf.

A similar car was recovered a short time later in Marino, and was seized for a forensic examination.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who saw a car matching the description, with an 05-D registration, in the vicinity of Fairview, Clontarf Road and Marino area between 6.15pm and 6.45pm to contact Clontarf Garda Station 01-6664800, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

A post mortem is due to be carried out on the deceased later today.
