The man was swept off Kerry Head yesterday afternoon.

Updated 16.00

A MAJOR RESCUE operation featuring the Naval Service and the Coast Guard is continuing in Kerry.

It is believed that a fisherman was swept off the rocks near Kerry Head at around 3.55pm yesterday. He is believed to be a Chinese national on holiday in Ireland.

As of this afternoon conditions are described as “poor, to marginally improving”.

The search resumed this morning with Shannon-based Rescue 115 helicopter, the naval vessel LÉ Orla and Coast Guard crews from Glenderry and Ballyheigue being dispatched to the area.

There is also a land-based operation in place along the coast.

It is thought that fishing equipment may have been found.
