Gardaí have seized cocaine and a submachine gun in the Dublin suburb of Castleknock

GARDAÍ HAVE SEIZED cocaine and a submachine gun in a raid on an apartment in Castleknock, Dublin today.

The discovery is part of a significant investigation into serious organised crime in the Dublin region involving gardaí from the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau including the Serious Crime Taskforce supported by local gardaí.

“During the course of the search a submachine gun and ammunition were recovered together with a significant quantity of cocaine (subject to analysis),” the gardaí said in a statement.

Drug paraphernalia along with mixing agents was also recovered during the course of this search.

Gardaí said one man in his 30s was been arrested in connection with the investigation.

He is currently detained at Blanchardstown Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939  and investigations are continuing.

“These operations use advanced analytical and intelligence methods to disrupt criminals and dismantle their networks,” the statement added.

Drug seizures play a critical role in targeting the livelihood of criminals and reducing their ability to carry out illegal activities.

“Drug seizures also help protect communities from the devastating impact of drugs and the associated criminality.”
