“THAT’S ONE SMALL step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

When Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon in 1969, he uttered this iconic quote and enshrined his place in history. Nearly fifty years on, children attend schools and people live on his streets named in his honour.

Nowhere is the legacy of the moon landing felt more keenly than in Coolock. Yes, you read correctly. Tucked away in an estate in Coolock is a little warren of streets each named after different players in the landing.

Not far from Northside Shopping Centre is Tranquility Grove, which is named in honour of Tranquility Base, the site on the moon where humans first landed. A few steps away is Eagle Park, Eagle being the name of the manned vehicle that landed on the moon on that fateful July day.

They surely count as the coolest street names in Dublin, right? (The houses were constructed around the time of that pioneering journey, hence the names.)
