'If you install a water meter at our house, we will remove it'

Read one County Councillor’s rather feisty letter to Irish Water…

CORK COUNTY COUNCILLOR Marcia D’Alton has been surprised by the overwhelming reaction she’s received to her strongly-worded letter to Irish Water, vowing to remove water meters from her family home.

If Irish Water or its contractors installs a meter at our house without our consent, we will remove it.
I am notifying you in advance so that taxpayer’s money will not be yet further wasted in the capital and operational cost of providing and installing the meter.

The first-term Independent Councillor from Passage-West in Co Cork told that she hasn’t yet received any acknowledgement from Irish Water to the letter, which was sent on 1 August, and in which she says the following:

We will not pay for water which has been fluoridated…We will not pay for a medicated product when we do not desire that medication.

“I didn’t necessarily want to go out and protest, and I felt this would actually be a better way of registering my unhappiness,” D’Alton said.

The reaction has been very surprising – this is all a bit new to me, but the response has just gradually built up momentum.
People have also been asking to use the letter as a template for their own submissions.

D’Alton’s letter, which has been shared 251 times on Facebook, was also sent to the Commission for Energy Regulation, who have responded, inviting the Councillor to make a formal statutory submission.
