Moped rider killed after crash in Dublin city

The man in his 30s died after being rushed to hospital.

A MAN IN his 30s has died after his moped collided with a car in north inner city Dublin.

The crash happened at about 7.30 pm this evening at the junction of Sherrard Street and the North Circular Road near Drumcondra.

The moped driver was treated at the scene by emergency services before he was taken by ambulance to the nearby Mater Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car was also taken to be assessed and his injuries are understood to be minor.

The coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out.

The scene has been blocked off to allow for a technical examination and the road is currently closed with local diversions in operation.

Investigating gardai are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact Mountjoy Garda Station 01-666860 or any garda station.
