The car driven by the woman hit another vehicle at around 2.30pm between Moate and Athlone, Co Westmeath. The driver of the second car, a woman in her 30s, was seriously injured and taken to Tullamore General Hospital. Her condition is described as stable.

He was pronounced dead at the scene after the accident around 8.30pm, while the other driver was treated for minor injuries at Cork University Hospital. The Kilumney to Crossbarry road remained closed to traffic this morning.
