Cyclist (80s) dies following hit-and-run in Co Meath

Gardaí are appealing for witness, with a particularly interest in the movements of heavy goods vehicles in the area at the time.

A CYCLIST HAS died following a hit-and-run in Co Meath. 

The incident happened on the R156 at Batterstown, Ballivor, Co Meath shortly after 10am this morning. The driver of the vehicle involved failed to remain at the scene. 

The cyclist, a man aged in his 80s, was found unresponsive at the scene. He was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

The road is currently closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage, and who were travelling in the area of Batterstown, Ballivor, Co Meath between 9.30am and 10.00am today are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

Gardaí are particularly interested in the movements of heavy goods vehicles (rigid or articulated trucks) in the area at the time.
