A 21-YEAR-OLD WOMAN has appeared before Athy District Court, charged in connection with a collision in which four young women died last year, KFM reports.

The crash, between a car and a van, happened on the N78 Athy Link Road at Burtown on 6 January 2015.

The car – a Volkswagon Polo – was being driven by Carlow woman Dayna Kearney. She was today charged with dangerous driving.

Nineteen-year-old Aisling Middleton from Athy and her friends Niamh Doyle (19), Gemma Nolan (19), and Chermaine Carroll (20), all from Carlow, died in the collision.

The five young women had been ice-skating together and were returning home when the collision occurred.

The case was adjourned until 12 April for service of the book of evidence.
