TENS OF THOUSANDS of people across Ireland took part in a very special overnight event, walking or running 5 kilometres from Darkness into Light in aid of suicide awareness and self-harm crisis centre Pieta House.

Events took place at the Phoenix Park in Dublin as well as over a dozen other locations across the country with thousands taking part and raising money for Pieta House.

Walkers and runners started early this morning as dawn broke, literally walking from darkness into daylight.

Founder of Pieta House Joan Freeman told RTÉ that around 10,000 people took part in Dublin alone with some 20,000 taking part nationwide, those figures doubling the 15,000 who took part last year.

Here are some of your snaps from the event. Well done to all who took part!
