Half of Dawson Street will close for four weeks to allow for Luas works

Dublin city’s Dawson Street will be partially closed to public vehicles and cyclists for four weeks, starting from next Monday the 3 October.

About half of the street – beginning at the turn off for Molesworth Street and until it merges with Nassau Street – will be closed off to traffic.

Part of the closed-off section will be open to pedestrians and commercial vehicles making deliveries to businesses on Grafton Street.

The Luas Cross City project aims to link the Red and Green Luas lines, which will create 13 new stops and cost approximately €368 million over the course of four years.

Motorists who wish to access Nassau Street are advised to take either of these alternative routes:

1. Turn onto Dawson Street, turn right onto Molesworth Street and left onto South Frederick Street, or
2. Take a right on St Stephens Green North at the Shelbourne Hotel onto Kildare Street and take second left onto Molesworth Street and first right down South Frederick Street.

Bus routes will also change, with a temporary contra-flow lane added to Kildare Street.

Pedestrians crossing the road entrance to Kildare Street are warned to be extra vigilant, as they now must look both ways.

Commercial vehicles are permitted to exit via Grafton Street between 5-11am.

All pedestrian movements will remain as normal. Traffic diversion signage will be in place for the duration of the works.
