THREE MEN HAVE been charged with terrorism offences by police in Derry following their arrest the night before the arrival of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to the region.

The three men, two aged 47 and one aged 40, have been charged with intent to endanger life, conspiracy to commit murder and possession of articles for use in terrorism activities.

The men are due to appear before Derry Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.

On Thursday night, PSNI detectives from the Antrim Serious Crime Suite stopped a car in the Creggan area of the city and subsequently arrested the three men after the discovery of what was believed to be a viable improvised explosive device.

A fourth man, aged 41, was arrested nearby but has since been released unconditionally.

The arrests and subsequent charges are part of the PSNI’s ongoing investigation into dissident republican activity.
