DUBLINERS HEADING FOR the beach this weekend have been told there is no swimming at a pair of popular spots.

The temporary bathing ban came into place yesterday evening at Dollymount and Sandymount strands.

Dublin City Council says the ban comes after heavy rainfall led to sewage washing up on the beaches from the River Liffey.

The council has not yet said how long the ban will be in place.

The council said in a statement:

“Bathing water  samples will be taken at these bathing areas today, with results being available on Monday.”

The news comes as the temperature is set to reach highs of 21 degrees today and 18 degrees tomorrow.
