Donald Trump says gun laws are not to blame for Oregon shooting

PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFUL DONALD Trump has come out and said that guns have “nothing to do” with Oregon campus killings on Wednesday.

He made the comments in response to President Obama’s renewed called for gun controls following the massacre.

“No matter what you do – guns, no guns – you have people that are mentally ill. And they’re going to come through the cracks. And they are going to do things that people will not even believe are possible,” he said.

In an interview with NBC’s Meet the Press, Trump said that he believed the prevalence of campus killings in the United States could be attributed to mental illness and copycat killers.

Oregon shooting 

The shooting at the Umpqua Community College campus on Wednesday saw 9 people killed and seven others injured.

Chris Harper-Mercer, 26, was named as the shooter and was found to have social media accounts displaying his support for the IRA.

Obama speech 

Speaking after the shooting, President Obama called for the introduction of gun control, saying that the process of campus shootings in the United States had become “routine”.

The shootings is reportedly the 294th mass shooting in the United States this year, according to database Mass Shooting Tracker.
