Two Irishmen die in Crete drowning tragedy

The tragedy happened on Friday. The Department of Foreign Affairs is assisting the families of the two men.

TWO IRISHMEN HAVE drowned while on holiday in Crete.

It happened on Friday.

The men are believed to be aged in their 40s, and were on a holiday on the Greek island.

A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs said consular assistance was being provided to the families of the two men.

Local news site the Chania Post reports that the tragedy happened in Kissamos, on the north-west of the island.

Local swimmers saw their bodies floating in the water and raised the alarm, according to the report.

It’s understood the men were on a group holiday when the tragedy occurred.
