Man arrested off Faro flight after cocaine found in suitcase at Cork Airport

In a separate operation, gardaí discovered an elaborate grow house in Country Meath with €750,000 worth of cannabis plants.

A MAN WHO was travelling on a flight from Portugal to Cork was questioned and later arrested in relation to the discovery of half a kilo of cocaine.

The 28-year-old man disembarked his flight from Faro at Cork Airport, but was greeted by police.

The drugs, with a street value of €40,000, were “expertly concealed in the frame of suitcase” according to the Revenue Commissioners.

The man is currently being detained at Togher Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act, 1996.

Cannabis grow house 

Separately, as part of on-going intelligence-led operations targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs in the Dublin and Meath areas the gardaí seized cannabis plants and arrested a man in County Meath.

Gardai from Ashbourne assisted by the Eastern  Regional Support Unit conducted a planned search of a warehouse near Ashbourne, Co. Meath this morning.

During the search cannabis plants with an estimated street value of up to €750,000 were discovered in an elaborate grow house.

Gardai arrested a male in his late 40s at the scene.

The man is currently detained under the provisions of Section 2 of The Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Kells Garda Station.

In a separate operation at Ringaskiddy Ferryport in Cork today, Revenue’s Customs Officers detained €12,000 cash from a 29-year-old male who had disembarked a ferry from France. 

The man was stopped in his vehicle as a result of routine profiling, followed by an indication by Revenue Cash Detector Dog Harvey.

The cash was concealed in the man’s luggage and was detained under the proceeds of crime legislation.
