Dublin Bus to increase pre-paid ticket prices

The cost of daily and weekly tickets is set to rise, weeks after a hike in cash fares.

Updated, 6.25pm

DUBLIN BUS IS set to increase the price of its pre-paid tickets, weeks after raising cash fares by 15 per cent.

The cost of Rambler, Travelwide and Travel 90 tickets – all of which allow users to take a number of journeys in a limited time – will rise by an average of 5.6 per cent.

Approving the increase, the National Transport Authority said it was necessary in order to maintain a balance with the increased cash fares.

The largest increase was to the 10-journey Travel 90 ticket, which increased from €19 to €21.50 – a 13.2 per cent hike.

In a statement, Dublin Bus said: “While the current heavily discounted fares, unfortunately, are no longer sustainable at the current rate, prepaid tickets do continue to provide excellent value for money.”

The company also said it plans to integrate all prepaid tickets into the Leap card system later this year.

Last December, Dublin Bus announced that it would increase cash fares by an average of 15 per cent from January 1, with a five per cent increase for Leap card customers.
