Dublin City Council posts CCTV images of people to stop illegal dumping

DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL has erected a poster showing people allegedly involved in illegal dumping in the north inner city.

12 CCTV stills have been released and erected on a wall at Frankfort Cottages near the Five Lamps in Dublin.

They show people dumping rubbish off the main street in the area. Next to the stills, a picture and a message from Dublin City Council reads:

Dumpers… We’re watching. We’re prosecuting.

“Within a couple of hours we had someone in at the counter in the local area office… asking for the image to be taken down,” John McPartlan, public domain officer with Dublin City Council, told Newstalk Breakfast this morning.

Because the neighbours would see it and she didn’t want to be identified as one of the people that were dumping at that spot.

McPartlan said that signs warning against dumping and all other initiatives had failed to stop people leaving their rubbish there.

The spot is the designated place to leave your rubbish for collection on Thursday – however all other days it is illegal to do so.

“Even leaflet drops around houses wasn’t working but this had an immediate reaction,” he said.

Our aim here was to stop the dumping at this location and hopefully we’ve achieved that.

McPartlan said that the council had identified a number of areas of high dumping around the North Circular Road that they were planning to target.

He said that the initiative had been highly successful so far.
