A 23-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with the rape of a woman who was attacked while walking her dog in Dungannon.

The woman was attacked in the Peatlands Park area of the Tyrone town at around 2.45pm on Wednesday.

Investigating officers have now confirmed that a man has been charged over the sexual assault and will appear before Omagh Magistrates Court on Monday.

Following the daylight attack, officers from the PSNI’s Rape Crime Unit had released a description of the suspect in which he was described as being six-foot-tall and wearing a bicycle helmet and high-vis jacket during the assault.

The charging of the man comes following his arrest yesterday.

As is normal procedure all charges will be reviewed by Northern Ireland’s Public Prosecution Service.
