OVER 800 PEOPLE will leave telecoms company Eircom, as the company aims to restructure their operations.

The redundancies are part of the overall moves at the company aimed at shedding 2,000 jobs by next year.

The workers will leave the company on an incentivised exit scheme after they applied for an early retirement scheme.

An Eircom spokesperson said that those who had qualified for the redundancy had had their options explained to them.

Staff who qualified have received one to one consultations to explain the options available to them. The company will now work through the process of assessing and confirming the applications by the end of November and the company remains on track to reach its target to reduce headcount levels by 2,000 by June 2014.

The redundancies will come from across the company, with a number of different professions being hit.
