Biography

He was first elected to Galway County Council in 2004 as a Labour councillor. He challenged for a Dáil seat on a number of occasions before he was elected in 2011. A former chairman of Labour, he left the party after losing the whip when he voted against cuts to the respite care grant. He joined Fianna Fáil in 2013.

From my earliest days in public life I have worked to ensure that a threshold of decency should exist, through which no one should fall.

What is your number one priority for your constituency?

Development of infrastructure: transport, broadband, medical & educational services so as to provide employment & services to east Galway.

What one thing would you like to do in your first 100 days of the new Dáil if you are elected?

An amendment to the Mental Health Acts to end the practice of ECT being administered to people against their will.
