Biography

Burton was first elected as a TD in 1992. She lost her seat in 1997 and was re-elected in 2002. She has been re-elected in every general election since. She is the former leader of the Labour Party. She was first elected to Dublin County Council in 1991. She was appointed as Minister for Social Protection in 2011 and she is also a former lecturer at TU Dublin.

Why should someone vote for you?

In my years as a TD, I have fought to secure equal rights for women and to promote an open society that respects diversity and tolerance.

What is your number one priority for your constituency?

Quality planning that offers affordable homes and reliable public transport.

What one thing would you like to do in your first 100 days of the new Dáil if you are elected?

In the first 100 days I would like to be part of a sustained all-party effort to put in place a radical and effective programme for climate change, to include large scale home-retrofitting and public transport investment.
