Fianna Fáil TD Barry Andrews is fighting his third general election in Dún Laoighaire. Andrews was first elected to the Dáil in 2002 after a short spell on Dún Laoighaire Rathdown County Council. Andrews is a qualified barrister and practised at the bar until 2004. He was appointed as Minister for Children and Youth Affairs by Brian Cowen in 2008.

Andrews taught History for seven years in Ballyfermot Senior College, Sutton Park School and Bruce College.
