Labour have nominated Jerry Cowley as their sole candidate in the traditional Fianna Fáil-Fine Gael stronghold of Mayo. As an independent TD, Cowley was elected to the Dáil in 2002 but was not re-elected in 2007. The 58-year-old currently works as a GP in his native Mulranny.
