Fine Gael said yesterday that Kenny was hoping to speak to as many people as possible in the run up to polling day and these guys were certainly ready to talk.

DEMONSTRATORS EXPRESSING THEIR opposition to the water charge joined Taoiseach Enda Kenny out on the campaign trail in Limerick City this morning.

The Taoiseach was canvassing for local and European candidates as part of his nationwide tour. Yesterday his party said he was “hoping to speak to as many people as possible in the run up to polling day” and these Anti Austerity Alliance protesters were more than happy to oblige him.

Holding banners urging him to “scrap the water tax”, the group surrounded the Taoiseach as he walked down Cruises Street in Limerick City with some of his Fine Gael colleagues.

In a statement, the alliance said Limerick is “not the backdrop for Enda’s photo op, it is the crime scene of his policies”.

“Austerity is destroying this city, with the proposed water tax set to drive families into poverty. We want to blow the whistle on austerity, and let Enda know we can’t make ends meet.”
