A lot of women are tweeting Enda about their periods - and he's cool with it

“People send tweets to the Taoiseach all the time on all sorts of issues and are entitled to do so.”

IF ENDA KENNY has been looking at his mentions on Twitter in recent days he will have seen an awful lot of women tweeting him about their menstrual cycles.

As part of raising awareness for the campaign to repeal the 8th Amendment, comedian Grainne Maguire began tweeting the Taoiseach directly on Monday.

She argued that providing such detail was only fair given that “we know how much the Irish state cares about our reproductive parts”.

Maguire’s campaign has taken off on Twitter in recent days with dozens of women getting involved.

Here’s a sample of what they’ve been tweeting:

Maguire is only delighted with the response:

But what does the Taoiseach himself think about all this?

He’s coming under pressure over the abortion issue having said recently he has no intention of repealing the 8th Amendment without considering what replaces it.

We somewhat awkwardly asked his spokesperson to comment on the campaign last night and here’s what they told us:

People send tweets to the Taoiseach all the time on all sorts of issues and are entitled to do so. That’s part and parcel of him being active on the platform.

So there you have it.
