Man arrested after shop worker threatened with knife

A sum of money was taken from the shop during the incident.

A MAN HAS been arrested after a worker at a Co Clare shop was threatened with a knife.

Gardaí made the arrest following a robbery at a shop on The Market in Ennis this morning.

They said that at approximately 9.25am a lone male entered a newsagent at The Market.

He threatened a staff member with a knife and left the scene with a sum of money. No one was injured during the robbery.

A passing garda patrol, who were alerted to the robbery, arrested the 29-year-old man and recovered the knife a short distance away near Parnell Street.

The arrested man is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Ennis Garda Station.
