THOUSANDS OF CATHOLIC worshippers attending the International Eucharistic Congress in Dublin this summer needn’t worry about missing out on Euro 2012 – the games will be shown on big screens for the faithful.

The IEC 2012′s organising committee has confirmed to TheJournal.ie that games being played in Poland and Ukraine while the Congress takes place will be shown on temporary screens at the RDS venue.

Thousands of people are expected to arrive in Ireland for the IEC from June 10-17. The RDS has a maximum capacity of 25,000 each day, while there are also events in Croke Park which seats 82,000 people.

Ireland’s first game, against Croatia, will be played on Sunday June 10 – the first day of the Congress.

A spokesperson for the organising committee said she understood the football games would not clash with religious events, but would be screened after the day’s schedule had finished.

She added that one of the themes of this year’s event was “gathering”, and that football fans could gather to watch the matches.
