The Evening Fix...now with added heartbreaking dog rescue stories
People watch as a laser show illuminates India Gate war memorial in New Delhi, India (Altaf Qadri/AP).
HERE ARE THE things you need to know as we round off the day in three easy steps.
THINGS WE LEARNED:
#ARREST: A man in his late 20s has been arrested today in connection with the death of a man yesterday in Dublin. The man was fatally injured after he fell or was pushed onto the road and was struck by a bus.
#HOAX CALL: A nurse who was the victim of a prank call from an Australian radio station at the hospital where the Duchess of Cambridge was being treated has been found dead. The two radio presenters who made the call have been suspended until further notice.
#PENALTY POINTS: The Garda Commissioner has said today that internal investigations into penalty points cancellations will be ‘rigorous’. Martin Callinan rejected a suggestion that a “culture of non-enforcement of penalties” was being tolerated.
#ANGLO: Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar has said he does not believe the government should pay the €3 billion promissory note due to be paid to the former Anglo Irish Bank in March. The ECB has warned that avoiding payment may not be legal.
#TESCO: Supermarket chain Tesco has agreed to a number of undertakings and to pay discount retailer Aldi €150,000. Aldi was suing Tesco over inaccurate price comparisons.

THINGS WE LOVED:
- If you’re struggling to think of an original Christmas present to get for a loved one, try one of these Bargain Blasphemy album covers.
- These water colours have been titled “Sh**ty renditions of famous paintings” but we think they’re rather good…
- Do you love when things fall over and knock other things over? Well so do we.

THINGS WE SHARED:
- These 9 gas alternative Irish Christmas cards are prefect if you’re sick of the usual ‘robin on a snow covered branch’ image.
- Prepare yourselves. We cried. A lot. Meet Billy, the little chihuahua who was rescued from a puppy mill where he and other dogs were terribly abused.
