Man arrested after armed standoff with gardaí last night

The man gave himself up after a number of hours.

A MAN IN his 30s was arrested last night following a standoff with armed officers outside a house in Finglas, north Dublin.

The Armed Response Unit was called to the Hampton Woods area where officers could be seen with their weapons drawn.

A video was posted online showing officers pointing handguns and automatic weapons at the house.

Trained garda negotiators were brought in and the man, who had claimed he was armed, gave himself up peacefully.

Gardai confirmed that the incident took place and that a man had been arrested. Nobody was injured during the incident.

A spokesman said: “Gardaí attended an incident at house in Hamptonwood Way, Finglas, in which a man was detained under the mental health act. The incident began at 8.40pm and concluded approx. 10pm.”
