Major traffic delays as firefighters battle blaze at Cork pub

The fire is believed to have broken out at The Roundabout Inn at the Annabella Roundabout.

Updated at 9.10pm

MULTIPLE UNITS OF Cork Fire Brigade are tackling a large blaze this evening at a pub in Mallow.

Cork County Fire Brigade received a call at 4.45pm this evening in relation to a fire at The Roundabout Inn at the Annabella Roundabout.

Units from Mallow, Charleville and Kanturk responded to the blaze.

“On arrival, we rescued one lady from the upper floor and then we contained the fire,” Barry Collins from Cork County Fire Brigade told TheJournal.ie.

“We stopped the fire from spreading. The fire was at the centre of the building and we stopped it spreading to both sides of the building,” he said.

No one was injured in the blaze.

A large cloud of smoke coming from the building has blown across the road in front of the pub, which has reduced visibility.

The lack of visibility has caused traffic delays as the N20 Cork-Limerick Road was closed off while firefighters battled the blaze.

One lane has since reopened northbound at the Annabella Roundabout but traffic is expected to remain heavy throughout the evening.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area and Mallow town if possible.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and it is currently under investigation by An Garda Síochána.
