THE CLEAN-UP HAS begun after this morning’s destructive flooding around the country.

The latest pictures, taken after water was pumped from affected areas, show layers of mud, smashed windows, and ruined stock.

Photographs from Noel Dolan show the extent of the damage in Blackpool, where locals and council staff have been working to clear the water, mud and debris from homes and businesses.

Douglas Village in Cork is covered in two inches of mud, according to Irish Examiner journalist Claire O’Sullivan. However, she added that community spirit is alive and well there, with the East Village restaurant cooking up breakfast for those involved in the clean-up.

Meanwhile, this video uploaded to Youtube gives a flavour of the intense thunderstorms that struck Ballincollig in Cork last night – fast forward to half way through for movie-style thunder claps.

According to the Irish Examiner, brooms are available at Clonakilty courthouse for people who want to take part in the clean-up.

Below are photographs taken of the conditions in Blackpool as the clean-up gets underway.
