Flooding across the country causes road damage and closures

Several roads were flooded in Galway, Kerry and Mayo.

SEVERAL ROADS ARE flooded following heavy rain in many parts of the country last night.

A status yellow rainfall warning has been issued for Munster, Wexford and Galway after serious flooding in the last 24 hours across the country.

A number of roads have been closed in Clifden, Co Galway and gardaí are advising motorists to only drive in  exceptional circumstances.

The R341 to Cleggan is closed and RTÉ is reporting that a section of the road was washed away during torrential downpours.

There was flooding overnight on the N70/ Ring of Kerry between Kells and Cahersiveen, however the road has reopened this morning.

AA Roadwatch is advising motorists to take care, as there is still a lot of surface water.

Further heavy rain is expected for the rest of the day and early tonight with a continued risk of flooding.
