FOOD SAFETY INSPECTORS served enforcement orders on nine businesses last month, including four closure orders.

There was also the successful prosecution of a restaurant in Dublin carried out by the HSE.

This was Kungfu Buffet in Phibsborough Shopping Centre, Dublin 7.

Commenting on the enforcement orders, chief executive of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) Dr Pamela Byrne said that food safety is paramount, especially in the run-up to Christmas.

“There can be zero tolerance for negligent practices that potentially put consumers’ health at risk,” she said.

It is particularly important in the lead up to the busy Christmas period that food businesses ensure they can cope safely with the increased volumes of food they may supply.

Three closure orders were served under the food safety legislation on:

  • Legends (take away), 63 Georges Street Upper, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin
  • Pizza House (take away), Kilmacow, Kilkenny
  • Brennans Pork Shop (butcher), 7&8 Dublin Street, Carlow

Another closure order was served under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010 on:

  • Ming Court Restaurant, Blanchardstown Centre, Dublin 15

Under food safety legislation, a closure order is issued where it’s deemed there’s likely to be “a grave and immediate danger to public health at or in the premises” or where less serious improvement orders aren’t complied with.

It can be lifted by the FSAI once issues are addressed.

A prohibition order was served under the FSAI Act on:

  • Andarl Farm (cold store), Brickens, Claremorris, Mayo

Finally, four prohibition orders were served under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010 on:

  • O’Connor Butchers, The Square, Dromcollogher, Limerick
  • Crusts (manufacturer/packer), Unit 41, Millennium Trade Park, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15
  • Bombay Bazaar (supermarket), Unit 25 Butterly Business Park, Kilmore Road, Artane, Dublin 5
  • Forte Restaurant and Take Away, Castle Street, Roscommon
