THESE ARE FRONT pages France is waking up to this morning after a night of shootings and explosions that killed at least 120 people.

“This time, it’s war,” Le Parisien declared, amid scenes of carnage at several locations in Paris.

Centre-right daily Le Figaro took up a similar theme with the headline “War in central Paris”.

“In the name of the true martyrs of yesterday, the innocent victims and in the name of the Republic, France will be able to stay united and stand together,” its front page said.

The left-leaning Libération led with “Carnage in Paris”, saying “terrorist barbarism” has crossed a “historic line”.

The front page of Aujourdh’hui read “Terrorist massacre in the centre of Paris”, while La Voix du Nord led with “Massacre in Paris”.

Sports paper L’Equipe splashed the word “L’Horreur” (“Horror”) across a black front page.

Papers immediately made the link between the attacks on the Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine that claimed 17 lives in January, sparking an outpouring of solidarity around the Twitter hashtag #jesuischarlie.

“We were Charlie. We are Paris!” wrote the Republique des Pyrenees regional daily.
