GALWAY CITY COUNCIL has had some of its refuse trucks repossessed by a leasing company.

Galway residents have been told that due to “unforeseen operational circumstances” there may be difficulties with the brown bin collection in the city this week due to the issue.

A spokesperson said that the green bin will be collected as normal, and asked people to leave out the brown bin as usual while an interim arrangement is being organised.

Normal service is expected to resume starting next week.

The vehicles were repossessed yesterday by Holden Plant Hire.

It is believed that Galway City Council is currently working on leasing arrangements in relation to its refuse service equipment, and that it had a long-term arrangement with Holden Plant Hire, which has taken back the vehicles.
