THE MAYOR OF Galway has said that her decision to vote against allowing Senator David Norris to address Galway city council in September was a mistake.

Speaking to RTÉ, Hildegarde Naughton said that Norris had the right to address the council and that she would would try to get today’s decision reversed.

Naughton earlier cast the deciding vote against the motion, thereby denying Norris’ request to address the council in the autumn. Seven councillors had voted for, and seven against, the motion.

Former Galway mayors Michael Conneally and Michael Crowe both said that they would not support Norris’ request, however Labour councillors and several independents supported the request.
