Gardaí to make televised appeal over detective's killing

Garda Donohoe will be laid to rest tomorrow in Lordship, Co Louth.
Jan 29th 2013, 7:36 AM 6,013 26

GARDAÍ ARE EXPECTED to make a national appeal for information regarding the killing of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe on RTÉ’s Crimecall programme tonight.

The 41-year-old father of two was shot dead during a robbery at a Credit Union in Dundalk on Friday night.

Yesterday gardaí confirmed that they were working with the PSNI in a cross border investigation. A technical examination of a Volkswagon Passat found burnt out in Co Armagh is ongoing  though Minister for Justice Alan Shatter has said that it was “probably” the one used by the five-man gang that killed the detective.

It is not known if any new information will be released in the appeal this evening but yesterday gardaí also issued a special appeal for information from anyone who:

  • Observed suspicious activity in the vicinity of Lordship Credit Union between 6.30pm and 9.30pm last Friday, 25 January;
  • Saw a dark coloured car leaving the scene of the shooting that was driving in an erratic manner and heading towards Ravensdale roundabout in the general direction of Dundalk, close to the M1 motorway;
  • Who saw a Volkswagen Passat which was located burned-out on the Keady to Newtownhamilton Road in Co Armagh yesterday morning.

The detective garda will be laid to rest tomorrow St Joseph’s Redemptorist Church in Dundalk.
