Garda hospitalised after being hit with hammer in armed robbery

An investigation has been launched but no arrests have yet been made.

A GARDA WAS treated in hospital after being assaulted in an armed robbery involving three masked men armed with iron bars and a hammer in north Dublin.

It happened at around 4.15 on Tuesday morning when two gardaí were called to the robbery of a shop on the Lower Drumcondra Road.

One of the gardaí was hit across the head in a struggle with one of the men.

The officer who was attacked was taken to the Mater hospital but has since been released.

An investigation has been launched but no arrests have yet been made.

The three raiders managed to flee from the scene. They were wearing grey tracksuits and hoodies and black balaclavas.
