Gardaí launch murder probe over death of Kilkenny woman, 51

Siobhan Stapelton, a mother of five, died in hospital after being found with serious injuries outside her home in Thomastown.

GARDAÍ HAVE FORMALLY launched a murder inquiry after a post-mortem examination on the body of a 51-year-old woman who died yesterday.

Siobhan Stapelton, a 51-year-old mother of five, was found with serious injuries at her house near Thomastown, Co Kilkenny yesterday afternoon.

She was later removed to St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny City and later to Beaumont hospital in Dublin, but passed away while being transferred to the capital.

An incident room has been set up in Thomastown, and Gardai are appealling for anyone who may have seen anything of a suspicious nature or unusual behaviour in and around the murder area between 1pm and 1:45pm yesterday to contact them.

Gardaí have advised that the scene – Glebe Lodge, Kilfane – is on the old Thomastown to Dublin road, around one-and-a-half miles outside Thomastown, and is close to a well-known pub.
