Gardaí are investigating after two men were shot in the early hours in Limerick city

TWO MEN WERE treated for injuries after they were shot in Limerick early this morning.

The incident happened at around 2.30am in the Singland Park, in the Garryowen area of the city, their injuries are understood not to be life threatening.

Sources have said the men received pellet wounds from at least one shotgun blast in a row with others in the area.

It is understood one theory being explored by gardaí is that it is likely linked to an ongoing drugs feud in the area.

In June of last year a video captured two men throwing petrol bombs at a house in the estate.

The feud has seen a number of people attacked and also attacks on houses – it is believed to be related to control of the drugs trade. Both men who were shot are originally from Moyross on the northside of the city.

Gardaí in Henry Street are investigating the shooting.

A garda spokeswoman said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene following report of an incident involving the discharge of a firearm, at a residential location in Garryowen, Limerick this morning at approximately 2.35am.

“Two males (a youth aged in his teens, and a man aged in his 40’s) were conveyed to University Hospital Limerick for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening at this time. Investigations are ongoing.”
