GARDAÍ IN WICKLOW are investigating the alleged beheading of a couple’s dog.

The incident occurred in the back garden of a home in Rathdrum in the county. A complaint has recently been made to gardaí, the gardaí confirmed to the TheJournal.ie.

The Irish Independent reports that the pet’s head was left on the back doorstep of the couple’s home days after the chihuahua was found dismembered.

The Independent quotes owner Kieran Keogh as saying that he is “sick to his stomach” about the incident.

Anyone with any information on the killing can call Rathdrum Garda Station on (0404) 46206.

Gillian Bird of the DSPCA said:

“We’re very upset to hear about this case. We hope that there was no malicious or deliberate cruelty to the animal.”

She said that the organisation will liaise with gardaí on the case.
