GARDAÍ AND POLICE in England have made contacted with the family of  a man whose body was found in the River Bandon in Cork.

The body of 42-year-old John Forrester was recovered from the river on Tuesday morning, and Gardaí upgraded their investigation to a murder inquiry.

They had issued an appeal for anyone who had any information about where he was from, or had contact details for members of his family to come forward.

Family members have now been contacted in Blackpool and Lincoln, and a Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to work with them. The Irish Independent reports that tracing Forrester’s family was made difficult by the fact that he had lived a transient lifestyle for a number of years.

Gardaí have renewed their appeal for anyone who may have any information or saw anything suspicious in the area in Bandon between 8pm on Saturday 12 November and midnight on Sunday 23 November to contact them.

The body of 27-year-old Jonathan Duke was also recovered from the River Bandon on Sunday. His funeral takes place today. Two people have been charged with his murder.
