FURTHER VIOLENCE was reported along the Gaza-Israel border today, as militants fired rockets into Israel and Israel carried out airstrikes on Gaza.

Israeli Defence Forces said in a statement this morning that it targeted two militants who fired rockets from separate parts of northern Gaza. No casualties have been confirmed from the airstrike or from the rocket attack.

The IDF also said that in a separate attack, its forces killed Ismael al-Asmar, a member of Gaza’s Islamic Jihad movement accused of smuggling weapons in to Gaza.

The AFP and Dawn report that the 34-year-old was killed when a missile struck his car in Rafah, near the Egyptian border.

At least 24 people were killed in violence in Gaza and Israel last week. An unofficial truce was agreed between Israel and Hamas on Sunday, according to a Hamas official. However, the following day, Israel said that rockets were fired into the south of the country overnight.
