Go-ahead given for Dunne's hotel site redevelopment

But the green light wasn’t given to a ‘landmark’ 37-storey residential building on the site.

THE GO-AHEAD HAS been given to developer Sean Dunne to redevelop the Jury’s and Berkeley Court Hotel site – but a scaled down version of what he originally applied for permission for.

The site has been the subject of debate for four years.

An An Bord Pleanála inspector made the final decision today, saying that a scaled-down version of the original plan would be implemented at Lansdowne Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4.

The site is that of the D4 Hotels, formerly Jury’s, the Towers, the Berkeley Court and the Berkeley Apartments.

After three revisions, it was decided the seven-acre site would include a hotel with 151 bedrooms, 11 apartment blocks and one retail unit or café/restaurant.

The original plan included a 37-storey landmark residential building, but planning was refused for this, as well as for an office building.

The Bord said it would “constitute gross overdevelopment and over-intensification of use of the site” and “would be highly obtrusive”.

The planning permission is for 10 years so the development could take place in stages.
