WHEN IT COMES to knocking hunger pangs on the head, the humble doughnut is a thing of beauty.

But, because that’s just the way of things, an upmarket New York restaurant has decided to take doughnuts to the next financial level.

Yes, we may have hit peak doughnut.

Introducing this gold-plated special from the Manila Social Club in Brooklyn.

24-carat gold flakes are the least of the Golden Cristal Ube delicacies though – its icing is made from Cristal champagne and filled with champagne jelly.

And each one costs $100 (about €92).

So it may be just a little outside your price range as a post-lunch coffee accompaniment.

It really does look nice though.
