Tour Ireland's landmarks with new images from Google Street View

GOOGLE HAS RELEASED its new images of Ireland as part of its Street View software.

The pictures takes in a wide range of locations and focuses on sites of cultural and historical importance around the country.

These include Christchurch Cathedral in Dublin, Co Clare’s Ennis Friary and Leitrim’s 17th century Parke’s Castle.

Dublin’s Aviva Stadium has also been included in the landmarks ahead of the 2015 Six Nations Championship, which starts next month.

Users of the website will be able to view both the insides and outsides of these buildings, with Google using a 40lb backpack containing a 15-angle lens camera to take the pictures. These allowed for 360 degree pictures to be taken every 2.5 seconds.

The public will be able to take virtual tours of a number of locations around the country through the new images.

Speaking about the development, Director of Operations at Christchurch Cathedral, Nuala Kavanagh, said:

We are very excited to showcase our iconic and much loved landmark on Google’s Street View and invite a wider audience to come and see for themselves one of Ireland’s most spectacularly beautiful cathedrals with one of the oldest and largest crypts in Europe.
