Ireland's public transport schedule now included in Google Maps

The app will now include schedules from Bus Éireann, Dublin Bus, Irish Rail, DART and LUAS services.

COMMUTERS ACROSS THE country will have another way to plan their journeys as Google Transit launched in Ireland today.

The move, taken in partnership with the National Transport Authority, means that transport schedules from Dublin Bus, Bus Éireann, Irish Rail, the Dart and LUAS services will be included in Google Maps.

All routes have been mapped and users will be able to choose from multiple options when planning their journey. Travellers can enter their preferred time of departure to get the most appropriate train or bus journey.

The service sees over one billion monthly active users globally, and more than 50 per cent of users access the service through mobile.

Speaking about the launch, the Chief Executive for the National Transport Authority Gerry Murphy said:

There will be a real consumer benefit from our partnership with Google Maps Transit.  Google Maps is a key “go to” place for anyone researching a journey… [and] it’s a natural next step for us following the successful launch of our Journey Planner last year.

Google Maps has public transport schedules for more than one million transit stops worldwide. This includes over 800 cities such as New York, London, Tokyo and Sydney. Earlier this week, the company launched street view inside 16 international airports and more than 50 train and subway stations around the world.
